Wildfires from the East to the West

We've seen several major wildfires grab the headlines this spring.

A dry winter and early spring plus gusty winds led to several wildfires that broke out in New England, New Jersey, Long Island and Virginia in mid-April.  The largest impact was poor air quality in the Northeast region.

Farther south, smoke from the County Line Fire in northern Florida plagued the Jacksonville area during April.  The fire burned nearly 35,000 acres.

The Whitewater-Baldy Fire complex became the largest fire on record in the state of New Mexico.  It surpassed the Las Conchas Fire from 2011, which had previously been the largest.

On June 9, the High Park Fire started in northern Colorado.  As of June 19, the fire has consumed nearly 92 square miles according to The Associated Press.  The fire has destroyed 189 homes, the most in the state's history.
